In addition to providing the physical and tangible necessities of
cancer care, we believe in supporting patients and their families in a
way that also fosters emotional and mental health.
We support the purchase of things like Healing Art Therapy
Murals – lighted murals which create a bright and soothing atmosphere
for cancer patients during their treatment.
We also support the construction and maintenance of therapeutic
gardens, like the “Garden of Hope” in the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer
Centre and the Western Regional Memorial Health Care Centre in Grand
Falls-Windsor.
We maintain a well-stocked Toy Chest in the Radiation Therapy
Department at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre for pediatric
oncology patients. Radiation treatment can be a traumatic experience for
young cancer patients, especially since this therapy can happen every
day for an extended period of time. Every young, frightened and anxious
cancer patient who undergoes radiation treatment is surprised with a
reward when their treatment is complete. Each toy chest is customized by
Newfoundland Power to fit the interests and activities that each
individual child enjoys.
We are generous supporters of The Patient and Family Support
Fund. Established by the Cancer Care Foundation Newfoundland & Labrador,
the fund helps patients who cannot afford the basic necessities such as
travel, accommodations, and meals, when receiving their treatment.
