$250,000 for Cancer Care

On behalf of our employees, retirees and customers, Gary Murray, President and CEO, presented a $250,000 Power of Life gift in support of the In This Together Campaign to build a new Chemotherapy Unit at the Dr. H. Bliss Murphy Cancer Centre. This donation will help transform the delivery of cancer care for the people in our province.

$15,000 for Patient and Family Support Fund

September 2022 marks the 20^th Anniversary of Power of Life. Over the last 20 years over $5.1 million has been raised to support cancer patients and their families in our province. In honour of these incredible milestones, our employees donated $15,000 to the Patient and Family Support Fund, which will cover the requests for assistance from cancer patients across the province who are facing financial difficulty as a result of a cancer diagnosis for the entire month of September.

$100,000 for Cancer Care

Power of Life, on behalf of employees, retirees and customers, donated $100,000 to improve the Family Room and three Patient Rooms on Unit 4 North A of the Health Sciences Centre.

Treatment Equipment

A large portion of the funds raised through Power of Life go toward the purchase of much needed cancer treatment equipment. We have a strong desire to assist in bringing leading edge equipment into the province and making our treatment facilities on par with the best in the world. We also focus on equipment that makes the treatment process for patients more comfortable.

Cancer Support Programs

In addition to providing the physical and tangible necessities of cancer care, we believe in supporting patients and their families in a way that fosters emotional and mental health. We support the purchase of things like Healing Art Therapy Murals, toys for pediatric radiation patients, Therapeutic Gardens and basic necessities such as travel, accommodation, and meals for patients who are facing financial hardships.

Education and Awareness

Educating the public about the importance of early detection and the benefits of screening programs is also a key focus of Power of Life. We have partnered with a number of screening programs such as, prostate cancer screening, PAP testing and colorectal cancer screening.
