One-Time Customer Bill Credit

Both residential and business customers will automatically receive a one-time credit on their July electricity bills. This credit is due to fuel savings at the Holyrood Thermal Generating Facility and will replace the annual July 1 Rate Stabilization Plan rate adjustment.

The amount of the credit customers will receive will vary based on the amount of energy used.

Am I Eligible?

All active customers (residential and business) who have an electricity account on July 1, 2020, will receive the one-time bill credit.

Do I need to apply?

No, the one-time credit will be automatically applied to your July 2020 electricity bill. There is no application required.

How much will I receive?

The actual amount of your credit will not be known until your July 2020 billing date.

The amount of the credit a customer will receive will vary based on usage:

  • On average, a residential customer that uses electricity as their primary source of heat using an average of approx. 1,500 kWhs of electricity each month would receive a credit of around $145.
  • On average, a residential customer without electricity as their primary heat source using an average of approx. 900 kWhs of electricity each month would receive a credit of around $85.
  • Due to wide variability in usage for business customers, the amount of credit will vary significantly.

How was my credit calculated?

12 months of actual energy use
Your one-time credit will be based on your most recent 12 months energy use, ending June 30, 2020.
Approximately 90% of our customers will receive the credit based on the actual amount of energy used.

Less than 12 months of actual energy use
Your one-time credit will be based on your actual energy use, ending June 30, 2020, with additional months estimated to reflect a full year.

Less than 1 month of actual energy use
Your one-time credit will be based on the average annual energy use for your customer group.

The applicable amount of HST will also be provided to customers who receive a bill credit.

How will the one-time credit appear on my electricity bill?

The one-time credit will appear separately on your July 2020 electricity bill. Your credit calculation details will be on the statement included with your electricity bill.

If your one time bill credit is more than your July balance, your credit will carry through to your next electricity bill.

If you are on our Equal Payment Plan (EPP), the one-time bill credit will be applied against your EPP monthly payment.
