We are honored to be inducted into Electricity Canada’s Centre of Excellence, which showcases the best of Canadian electricity ingenuity, inspiration and aspiration. Our two projects showcased include an enhancement to crew’s onsite safety briefings – using innovation and technology to help keep our crews, customers and communities safe. Our second project featured is the use of two new environmentally-friendly solutions to extend pole life in protected public water supply areas. We are honored to be recognized with the Women in Resource Development Corporation’s 2022 Diversity in Industry Award for our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace. We strive to create an environment where everyone is welcomed and feels comfortable bringing their whole selves to work. This award is a true testament to our employees for their open and honest conversations about inclusion and diversity as we all work together to continue making Newfoundland Power a great place to work.

Electricity Canada honored us with the Resilience and Reliability Award for our dedication to meet the electricity needs of customers. We are proud to be the recipient of the first ever Resilience and Reliability Award for having overcome obstacles and developing long term solutions in asset management, innovation in reliability, outage communications and overall reliability management. Our customers consistently tell us that when it comes to their electricity service, what’s most important is reliability and price. We take our responsibility of keeping the lights on for our customers very seriously and our employees work hard every day to provide safe, reliable service at the lowest possible cost.

Our employees truly are second to none when it comes to giving back to the communities where we live and work. This year we celebrated 20 years of hands-on, environmental action through our EnviroFest celebrations across the province. We also celebrated 15 years of Power of Life, our corporate charity, which has raised close to $4 million to provide cancer care and comfort to the people of our province and the money stays right here at home.

It was a tremendous honor to have our Victoria Hydroelectric Plant inducted into the 2017 Hydro Hall of Fame. We have a long standing tradition of proudly serving the people of this province since 1885, and this plant is an example of the role that we have played in the development of industry, business and community for more than 130 years.

This award identifies employers in our province who demonstrate leadership in the community, productivity and innovation, and a fundamental belief in the value of a healthy, safe and motivated workforce.

Newfoundland Power received this award based on our overall commitment to our employees and the communities we operate in. In particular, the Employers’ Council review panel zoned in on recent initiatives around mental health, including the ongoing roll out of our Working Mind Program.

Jim Short and Wayne Baggs received CEA Lifesaving Awards for their bravery and immediate response in rescuing someone in need. These prestigious Lifesaving Awards are presented to utility employees who saved or attempted to save a life or those who acted to prevent further harm to someone who was injured or in need of immediate help.

We are committed to operating our day-to-day activities in an environmentally responsible manner. Environmental awareness, diligence and management are a part of normal business operations at Newfoundland Power, along with our long-term dedication to health and safety, our environment and our community.

This award is presented to forward thinking businesses that demonstrates leadership in social responsibility, supports the well-being of their communities, and encourages their employees to contribute to social goals. Newfoundland Power was chosen as the recipient of this award in the Atlantic Region. Newfoundland Power’s volunteer efforts wouldn’t be possible without our dedicated and enthusiastic employees – this award is a reflection of their hard work.

Newfoundland Power was awarded the Canadian Electricity Association (CEA) Vice President’s Award of Excellence in Employee Safety. The Company earned the award in the Bronze category for an exceptional safety record under the category of Generation.

Lifesaving Awards are presented to utility employees whose actions helped save the life of a fellow co-worker or member of the general public. Newfoundland Power employees Horace Crocker and Neville Gosse, Power Line Technician Lead Hands in Port aux Basques were recognized for their actions in saving the life of a motorcyclist who had collided with a passenger vehicle. A third employee, Jim Cox, a Power Line Technician Lead Hand in St. John’s, was also recognized for his quick thinking when he identified and transported a critically ill flag person to emergency care in the nick of time.
