Environmental Commitment Program
Newfoundland Power's employee-driven Environmental Commitment Program was initiated in November 1997.
Over the years this program has gained considerable community support. The company,
through its employees, have initiated many environmental partnerships with local community groups and schools across the island.
How the Program Works Newfoundland Power's Environmental Commitment Program is carried out by a network of employees located in Newfoundland Power's main service centers throughout the province. Known formally as Customer Service Specialists, these employees wear an additional hat as Environmental Coordinators.
Newfoundland Power's Environmental Coordinators work with employees, schools and environmental organizations to identify opportunities to promote environmental awareness. From teaching the 3R's to primary students to working with communities to develop nature trails, the Company's Environmental Coordinators are well known in their communities for initiating environmental awareness and action.
Each spring, Environmental Coordinators host EnviroFest activities in their respective areas. EnviroFest is an annual celebration of the environment that aims to promote positive environmental action in the community. Each year, thousands of community members and various organizations take part in our EnviroFest celebrations.
