"The best thing about cancer is camp...."

…a child attending a camp dedicated to those affected by childhood cancer once said to a staff member. The Power of Life Project, through the generous support of our employees and customers, donated $5,000 to Camp Delight, a major project of the Candlelighters Association of Newfoundland and Labrador.

Started in 1987, Camp Delight is an 8 day camp that hosts approximately 50 young people, ages 7 – 17 years, who have been affected by cancer. The Camp, held at Lavrock Conference Centre on the Salmonier Line, is staffed entirely by volunteers and aims to provide the opportunity for these children to have independence and grow personally in a safe and secure environment.

Our Carbonear area employees have supported Camp Delight for the past 15 years through the generous donation of backpacks that are filled with goodies and enjoyed by the children.

“As you can appreciate, families that are affected by childhood cancer can often be financially burdened,” said Bob Pike, Chair of The Power of Life Project. “The cost to attend this worthwhile Camp is approximately $500 per child so our $5,000 donation will certainly go a long way in assisting children who would otherwise not be able to go. This is another way The Power of Life Project is supporting cancer care and those living with cancer…right here!”

We extend a heartfelt thank you to all those who contribute to The Power of Life Project - you are truly making a difference in the lives of others by helping to put a smile on the face of a child!
