Newfoundland Power’s President and Chief Executive Officer, Earl Ludlow, officially donated two printing presses worth a combined total of $60,000 to The HUB. The Honourable Shawn Skinner, Minister, Human Resources, Labour and Employment and Minister Responsible for Persons with Disabilities, was on hand to show his support and provide words of encouragement as Tom Badcock, Executive Director, The HUB, graciously accepted the donation.
“We are always looking for ways to give back to the community in which we live and work,” said Mr. Ludlow. “And, given the tremendous work The HUB does to benefit persons with disabilities in our community, this partnership was a great fit for both organizations.”
Mr. Badcock says he is very grateful that Newfoundland Power chose to donate the presses to The HUB. “We are becoming increasingly popular in the local market place, which means there is definitely no shortage of work to be done. Our only problem was difficulty in keeping up with demand. The timing of this donation couldn’t have been better, one of our presses has given out completely and another was waiting on parts for repairs. These two printing presses are exactly what we need to keep our employees gainfully employed for the foreseeable future.”
The HUB, a registered charity, was founded in 1975 to provide or obtain services allowing physically disabled adults in Newfoundland and Labrador to become independent participating members of the community. The HUB has since grown to become the largest organization representing persons with physical disabilities in Newfoundland and Labrador. Today, they run one of the largest print shops in the province, operate one of the largest food catering facilities in the province and provide homes for Avalon Employment Inc., Turnings, The Rabbittown School and The Newfoundland and Labrador Association of the Deaf, all of whom are tenants of The HUB.
Newfoundland Power’s partnership with The HUB is a natural extension of the Company’s community involvement and commitment to enhancing the province at a grassroots level.
