Understanding how energy is used in your home is the first step toward managing your energy costs. This energy calculator is designed to give you your approximate monthly energy costs for many household appliances.

We have tried to include as many popular household items as possible, organized by room. Enter how many of each item you have in each room and the approximate hours per week that the item is used. For time periods shorter than one hour, enter a decimal (eg: 15 minutes = 0.25). Some items do not require a time to be entered because the energy usage is fairly consistent over the course of the week.

This calculator uses a kilowatt-hour rate of 9.631 cents, which is our residential energy rate. We have not included our basic customer charge, HST or any additional charges such as street lighting in the calculation. Please note that this energy calculator does not calculate electric heating costs as these costs vary significantly by household based on home construction and lifestyle.
