The Company

Newfoundland Power Inc. operates an integrated generation, transmission and distribution system throughout the island portion of Newfoundland and Labrador.

For over 120 years, we have been committed to providing customers with safe, reliable electricity in the most cost-efficient manner possible. Our Company serves over 232,000 customers making up approximately 85% of all electricity consumers in the province.

The Company purchases approximately 90% of its electricity from the Crown corporation, Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro, and generates the balance from its own smaller hydro electric stations. Newfoundland Power is regulated by the Newfoundland and Labrador Board of Commissioners of Public Utilities which has jurisdiction over rates, policies, capital expenditures and the issue of securities.

Service Territory

Newfoundland Power services approximately 85% of all electricity consumers in the province. Slightly over 60% of the province's population resides in the eastern portion of the island, mainly on the Avalon Peninsula which includes the capital city of St. John's.

The Company also services the Burin and Bonavista Peninsulas and the major centres along the Trans Canada Highway, including: Gander, Grand Falls-Windsor, Corner Brook, Stephenville, and Port aux Basques. The Company does not service the Great Northern Peninsula, smaller communities along the coastline and Labrador. These areas are serviced by Newfoundland and Labrador Hydro.
